GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN WINS FIVE NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS Out of Home campaigns, logos, and packaging design earn recognition for creative excellence
Chattanooga, TN – For the eleventh consecutive year Greg Callaham Graphic Design has earned national recognition for creative excellence in advertising design. Callaham received five American Graphic Design Awards from Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, for his work on behalf of AdWorks Outdoor Advertising, Explore Chattanooga, Hollywog, Lake Billboard, and Sisson Outdoor Advertising.
“It’s an honor to receive these awards and it’s encouraging to know my work is competitive at the national level," said Callaham. “I’m grateful to the AGDA for the opportunity to shine a national spotlight on clients such as these who see the value in memorable advertising messages and brand identity. This wouldn’t be possible without them.”
Callaham’s award-winning billboard campaign for AdWorks Outdoor Advertising promoted the outdoor recreational activities near Poplar Bluff, Missouri, for the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce. The ads featured a silhouette of people fishing from a boat on the lake at sunset and a canoe adventure by a father and daughter. The boards displayed on printed vinyl in Missouri.
The logo for Explore Chattanooga was created at the request of a Chattanooga business that promotes local businesses to visitors in the Chattanooga area. The logo appears on printed materials offering important information and discounts to tourists to encourage them to visit area attractions and destinations. Arrowheads at the ends of certain straight lines in the letters indicate the variety of directions one can go to explore all Chattanooga has to offer.
Hollywog is a Chattanooga, Tennessee, medical device manufacturer with a strong presence in the healthcare marketplace. They asked Callaham to design a new look for the existing packing for their WiTouch Pro back pain relief device. The result is a cleaner, upscale look, using new photography and less text to explain product features, benefits, and usage.
Callaham’s design for the Lake Billboard logo uses a bold, strong font for the first word of the business name, a precise, geometric font for the second word, and stylized water graphics to complete the logo. The visual conveys power, integrity, and longevity for the client’s business while paying homage to nearby Lake Erie.
The billboard campaign for Sisson Outdoor Advertising is more of a four-part public service announcement calling attention to the extra effort and risk our friends, family, and neighbors take by simply doing their jobs and providing the services we use every day. Delivery workers, office personnel, medical professionals, and everyone else who interacts with other people have gone above and beyond during the pandemic just by being there.
For 57 years the American Graphic Design Awards, through the editors of Graphic Design USA, has honored the outstanding work of creative professionals in the graphic arts community. To win an American Graphic Design Award means the entry is recognized as some of the best and brightest among thousands of entries from graphic design firms, advertising agencies, in-house corporate and institutional designers, publishers and other media across the United States, in 26 categories from print and packaging to internet and interactive design. GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN EARNS FIVE NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS Outdoor Advertising and Brochures Recognized for Creative Excellence
Chattanooga, TN –Greg Callaham Graphic Design has earned five American Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred five 2019 awards to Callaham's design work for Fluhman Outdoor Media, Visual Outdoor Advertising, PDI Works, and Hollywog.
“I really appreciate the opportunity the AGDA offers to shine a national spotlight on clients such as these who see the value in memorable advertising messages,” said Callaham. “I am honored to receive these awards. It’s encouraging to know the quality of my work is recognized the national level."
Callaham garnered two awards for his work on behalf of Fluhman Outdoor Media. One award is for the J&S Tractors billboard campaign featuring Kioti tractors. Callaham utilized imagery from Kioti corporate headquarters and applied his own take on the relationship between a tractor owner and their tractor. “Anyone who purchases a new tractor is going to be looking for any excuse to crank it up and use it. Both headlines play off that feeling, kind of like a kid with a new toy,” he said. The second award-winning design is for Malcolm Hinkle Refrigeration Company. The billboard features stock photography of child and adult hands holding a pink ribbon. “The advertiser wanted a special message for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and suggested this Bible verse. During my image search this one stopped me in my tracks. I knew it would do the same for the viewing public,” Callaham recalled. The ads displayed on printed vinyl in Texas.
The ad for Visual Outdoor Advertising features Nelson Tractor Company as the advertiser and promotes their John Deere riding mowers. “John Deere products are known for their longevity and owner loyalty,” Callaham said. “I know people who own them, and they love them more and more every year. I’ll go for a bad pun in a heartbeat, so my brain naturally spit out this headline and the advertiser loved it.”
For PDI Works, a Cleveland, TN, engineering consulting firm focused on product development for manufacturing, Callaham created an 8-inch square brochure and accompanying sales sheets. “The cover photo is the inspiration for the look of the whole project,” Callaham said. “The bright blue nearly crackles with a feeling of technical innovation that is perfect for this client. By combining their technical drawing with actual product photography, we show the scope of their expertise from concept to production. The brochure covers their corporate profile and the sales sheets are dedicated to individual products, seamlessly fitting into the brochure like additional pages.”
Hollywog is a Chattanooga, Tennessee, medical device manufacturer with a strong presence in the marketplace. They asked Callaham to design a brochure for their WiTouch Pro back pain relief device to distribute at a tradeshow dedicated to safety in the workplace. “The goal was to start a conversation and generate interest among employers to provide or subsidize the purchase of the WiTouch Pro to offset employee back pain.” The resulting brochure features the company’s bright green logo color and simple text to convey important information on how the product might reduce pain-related lost productivity.

GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN EARNS FOUR NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS Billboards and tradeshow banner designs receive recognition for creative excellence
Chattanooga, TN –Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won four American Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred four 2018 awards to Callaham's design work for Fluhman Outdoor Media, Hi-Tech Sign, Fredrickson Outdoor Advertising, and Hollywog.
“I’m grateful to the AGDA for the opportunity to shine a national spotlight on clients such as these who see the value in memorable advertising messages,” says Callaham. “It’s an honor to receive theses awards and it’s encouraging to know my work is competitive at such a high level."
Callaham’s award-winning billboard design for Fluhman Outdoor Media features Molecular Motors Speed Shop as the advertiser. A stylized old hot rod, complete with flames, conveys what the advertiser does while an explosion of yellow and red in the background highlights the business logo. The ad displayed on printed vinyl in Texas.
The ad for Hi-Tech Sign advertised Kia Cleveland and was posted on a digital billboard in Cleveland, TN. A bright red background captures the eye of prospective car buyers and provides high contrast with the price point for a 2017 Kia Soul.
Callaham used humor in the billboard design for Fredrickson Outdoor Advertising in Minnesota. The billboard company wanted to promote itself using its own ad space, but left the entire creative direction up to Callaham. Knowing the goal of the ad was to make the phone ring, he searched for an image that would make prospects look twice. The photo of a fairly ordinary guy in bright red tights and goggles stopped him in his tracks and Captain Billboard was born.
Hollywog is a Chattanooga, Tennessee, medical device manufacturer with a strong presence in the marketplace. They asked Callaham to design several portable pull-up banners to attract the attention of tradeshow attendees using photography they provided. The resulting banners featured the company’s bright green logo color in the header and vertical text to engage prospects in discussions about Hollywog’s line of pain relief products.

GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN WINS FOUR NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS Billboards and logo design receive recognition for creative excellence
Chattanooga, TN –Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won four American Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred four 2017 awards to Callaham's design work for Audi Chattanooga, Oliverio’s Ristorante, J&S Tractors, and Riverbend Ranch Steakhouse.
"It’s an honor to receive theses awards,” says Callaham. “I’m grateful to the AGDA for the opportunity to shine a national spotlight on clients such as these who see the value in memorable advertising and marketing messages. That extra effort is worth it and this something they can be very proud of."
Callaham’s award-winning billboard design for Audi Chattanooga features a 2017 Audi A4 set against a background of dark red with ghosted gears. He points to the high contrast between the white automobile and the background as a technique to make viewers really focus on the car and the selling message, while the gears give a nod to German engineering and quality.
The billboard for Oliverio’s Ristorante was displayed in Morgantown, WV. The advertiser wanted a billboard that instilled an upscale feel while still conveying a sense of invitation and welcome. They are very proud of the food they serve and the manner in which it is presented, so stock imagery wasn't going to get the job done. Callaham worked with them to coach a local professional photographer on how to capture the right lighting and angle on one of their signature dishes so it presented well in the medium.
J&S Tractors bought multiple outdoor advertising locations to promote their two stores in Texas. They wanted to do something different than a ho-hum tractor ad, but they had to maintain the manufacturer's corporate branding standards to qualify for co-op dollars. Callaham seized the challenge, had fun with the messaging, and the resulting campaign became one of those projects that not only was a joy to work on, but also zipped through the design process quickly and easily.
The logo Callaham created for Riverbend Ranch Steakhouse is part of a partial rebranding effort by an event facility housing several separate businesses in Oklahoma. Part of the new logo had to remain from the old logo yet the overall result needed to be fresh and exciting so viewers would notice the change. After educating himself about the advertiser’s businesses, he developed a final logo design they couldn’t wait to start using.

Chattanooga, TN –Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won four American Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred four 2016 awards to Callaham's design work for Village VW, CHI Memorial Hospital, and Center MedSpa.
"I’m grateful to the AGDA for the opportunity to shine the national spotlight on clients such as these who are willing to go the extra mile in crafting consistent, memorable advertising and marketing messages," said Callaham. "That extra effort is worth it and this is the proof. It’s something they can be very proud of."
Callaham’s award-winning billboard design for Village VW features a photo of a red Volkswagen Beetle taken from slightly above so the car appears to be smiling. “A clean car is a happy car,” said the designer, “And this board encouraged folks to visit the dealership for a great deal on a detail special.”
A Rehabilitation Brochure and a series of one-sheets touting the features and benefits of various therapies and maps to the corresponding departments garnered Callaham two more AGDA honors for CHI Memorial Hospital. “Our challenge with these pieces was to incorporate all the pertinent information along with inviting photography while maintaining the CHI Memorial’s brand integrity,” said Callaham. “ The staff of each department was very pleased to have these one-sheets representing their services to potential patients. The Rehabilitation Brochure was a marketing tool used to make patients aware of the overall rehabilitation options offered by CHI Memorial.”
Callaham also created an award-winning, two-piece campaign consisting of a postcard and 8.5”x11” flyer promoting a client appreciation event for Center MedSpa. Both items feature beautiful photography of natural elements designed to instill a sense of tranquility while inviting the reader to visit the facility. “The client works hard at building a market presence and my job was to make sure these materials were instantly recognizable as Center MedSpa collateral,” said the designer.

GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN WINS FIVE NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS Recognition for design excellence covers variety of media
Chattanooga, TN –Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won five American Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred 2015 awards to Callaham's design work for Harvest Grocery, Kia of Chattanooga Service, TLC Diversified, Village VW, and Zimmer MedizinSystems.
"I’m very thankful to the AGDA for the opportunity to shine the national spotlight on clients such as these who are willing to go the extra mile in crafting consistent, memorable advertising and marketing messages," said Callaham. "That extra effort is worth it and this is the proof. I hope it’s something they can be very proud of."
Callaham’s award-winning billboard design for Harvest grocery features the new grocery store’s logo prominently displayed against a background styled to look like a wooden crate. “It was important for them to quickly establish themselves as a natural, organic food resource for Chattanooga shoppers. This design was meant to complement their in-store signage and maintain their branding efforts in the market,” said the designer.
The Kia of Chattanooga Service billboard depicts a group of polished wrenches aligned like surgical instruments to promote the precision with which the advertiser repairs and maintains customer vehicles. “The headline really wrote itself for this one,” said Callaham. “The moment I saw the photo, the headline immediately sprang to mind. I couldn’t get it out of my head until I worked up the layout.”
TLC Diversified first started working with Greg Callaham Graphic Design on their outdoor advertising in Florida. As the relationship grew, they asked Callaham to design a full-page ad for an industry trade publication, and that ad was awarded a national honor. “They had an excellent idea as a starting point,” recalled Callaham. “Together we massaged the concept through a handful of revisions and produced a strong ad that relates the message clearly and accurately conveys the image of the company.”
Callaham’s billboard design for Village VW gained merit for the simple color palette and concise messaging. “The good folks out a Village VW had an exceptional deal on the VW Touareg,” Callaham said. “I wanted to maintain the VW brand identity through the use of their corporate blue and white, while making sure passers-by could not miss the special incentive being offered.”
For the second year, the designer pulled in an award for his work with Zimmer MedizinSystems, a medical equipment manufacturer based in Germany. The launch of their new ZWave acoustic pulse wave device opened the door to a wide-reaching campaign across a variety of media. “This was one of those projects I love to wade into,” said Callaham. “From sell sheets, to magazine ads, to trade show displays, this gave us a chance to showcase the new product and continue to establish the Zimmer MedizinSystems brand in the North American aesthetic therapy market.”

GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN WINS SIX NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS Focus on medical industry leads to recognition for design excellence
Chattanooga, TN –Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won six American Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred 2014 awards to Callaham's design work for Zimmer MedizinSystems, Hollywog, and Memorial Hospital.
"Competitions like the AGDA give design firms like mine a chance to shine the national spotlight on clients who put extra effort into their marketing and advertising messages," said Callaham. "It means the extra effort was worth it and that’s something of which they can be very proud."
Callaham's award-winning product brochure design for Zimmer MedizinSystems focuses on the Zimmer enPuls, a radial pulse therapy device currently gaining popularity with physical rehabilitation professionals across the US. The German-based company has a knack for developing innovative products and Callaham strives to create equally innovative marketing materials. “The brochure not only conveys the expected features and benefits, but it also introduces the reader to a new therapeutic protocol,” Callaham said. “That can be a tough hill to climb and I’m really proud of the success this piece has enjoyed.”
The AGDA recognition Callaham received for his work with Hollywog, a Chattanooga medical device manufacturer, was spread across two categories: logo design and product packaging. “Hollywog is the epitome of solid engineering coupled with creative product design. The logos I designed for their Neubac and Modpod products reflect that mindset. When we put together the product packaging we needed to maintain their ‘coolness factor’ while conveying features, benefits, and FDA-required verbiage in multiple languages,” said Callaham. “The final design attracts and holds the readers attention yet is very easy to read and understand.”
Callaham received two more American Graphic Design Awards for his work on advertising for Chattanooga’s Memorial Hospital, including a print ad for the Buz Standefer Lung Center and a series of print ads for the Continence Center. Callaham said, “It’s a thrill to work with Memorial Hospital and meet the creative challenges we face in successfully targeting specific demographics while imparting a clear message regarding the quality of healthcare Memorial provides. I’m fortunate to be teamed with such a high-caliber group of professionals.”

GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN WINS NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS Billboard and window poster designs for local clients receive honors for creative excellence
Chattanooga, TN – For the fourth consecutive year Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won multiple design awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred three 2013 American Graphic Design Awards to Callaham's advertising design work for Kia Chattanooga, Toyota of Cleveland, and McDonald’s of Red Bank.
"This is such a thrill to win these awards," said Callaham. "It puts those clients in the national spotlight for the extra effort they put into their advertising messages. That’s something they can be very proud of."
Callaham's award-winning billboard design for Kia Chattanooga features the 2013 Kia Optima in a nontraditional photo along with a 0% APR offer that covers half the ad space. “It sounds simple, but I wanted to make the offer huge because it’s a huge offer,” said Mr. Callaham. “The limited color palette of white, red, and black made for a very high-contrast, impactful billboard.”
The billboard design for Toyota of Cleveland consisted of a multi-colored “Frugal” on a pale blue background positioned over a white rectangle containing the advertiser’s name. “The advertiser wanted to promote their web site, gas prices were near their peak, and the manufacturer was touting their fuel mileage pretty heavily,” said Callaham. “Trying to say that in seven words or less was a challenge, but a fun one.”
The McDonald’s window poster was also challenging. “The client wanted to draw attention to the new full size McWrap, so we used a photo including a hand holding the wrap to give the scale necessary to convey the message that this was a new larger product,” Mr. Callaham said. “And it had to fit in perfectly with the rest of their promotional materials.”

The billboard design for Bill Holt Chevrolet essentially transformed the entire billboard into a replica of the dealer license plates attached to the front of the cars on the showroom floor. “The client approached us with the idea of doing something very different from a traditional billboard design and threw the license plate idea on the table. This award is a testament to their willingness to maximize the medium's impact," says Mr. Callaham.
For Beehive, Callaham created a gift card design that utilizes the salon's magenta and black color scheme while echoing the arcs and curves of the logo in the font and background graphics. "Gift cards are not just to use and throw away," he says. "They are handheld ads for the business aimed at a very focused target. It's an excellent opportunity to reinforce the brand and establish a relationship."

Billboard, Logo and Corporate Identity designs recognized
Chattanooga, TN — Local design firm Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won three 2009 American Graphic Design awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, recognized Callaham's billboard design advertising National Public Radio’s Morning Edition on radio station WUTC FM 88.1. In addition, his logo design and corporate identity/stationery package for Cardinal Management received national honors.
“I've been a graphic designer for more than 20 years and it’s always exciting and extremely satisfying to be recognized by one’s peers, especially at this level, “says Callaham.
Callaham’s billboard design features an overhead view of a cup of coffee and spoon on a saucer along with the show’s title and schedule on a bright red and orange background. "I chose the coffee cup and sunrise background colors to convey how Morning Edition should be a part of your morning wake up routine,” said Callaham. "A good cup of coffee and listening to NPR on WUTC in the morning is just natural."
For Cardinal Management, Callaham created an abstract shape based on the scarlet songbird to develop a peaked, bright red graphic set atop the company name. “We wanted to express two definitions of the word cardinal; the fiercely loyal bird with which everyone is familiar and, more importantly, 'that on which much depends.' We carried the design over to the company’s letterhead, business cards, envelopes, and Power Point slides to continuously, visually impart the message of Cardinal Management's loyalty and dependability.”
